Note on Bell Array: According to Joan Jennings, from the Downtown Yonkers Business Improvement District office, the bells come from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, which she thinks burned to the ground in the 1920s or 1930s. Everything was lost except these bells. They were moved to the courtyard of St. John’s Episcopal Church (Hudson St and Broadway). St. John’s Church was the family church for the Philipse Family, Loyalists during the Revolution, all of whose lands were confiscated and sold. The original chapel dates back to 1753 and the church as it appears today was built in the 1890s. (See: The National Register of Historic Places in Yonkers.)

Competition categories: BW (black & white), Ca (Color, advanced), OM ("Open Mind")
