Adapted from the brochure:
Powwows take place all across the Americas, nations of people may celebrate differently, but the outcome is the same -- Native Peoples dancing and rejoicing. The modern Powwow originates from the gatherings of Native People in Oklahoma in the early 1900s. Today, many dancers spend the summer months on the powwow trail, traveling to a different event each weekend. Some cancers and artists may cross the country three times each year.
Note: Costumes worn by powwow dancers derive from traditional regalia, but, in modern times, have become increasingly elaborate.
