1896/1897     Rondot, Natalis. Bernard Salomon, peintre et tailleur d'histoires a Lyon, au XVIe siècle. Lyons, 1897 -- First monograph on B.Salomon. Disputes relation between Salomon and Jean Cousin suggested by Papillon. -- reference: Thieme-Becker, XXIX, p. 354. --rab: Rondot's monograph is hampered by an extreme chauvenism. For the author it is impossible that any good can come from Italian influence, in fact, for Lyonaise art, for de Tournes and for Salomon, he denies Italian influence. All aspects of French art for Rondot, are elegant or rational; Italian art in contrast is decadent. He applies the same attitude to religion: No Protestant input has created the work of de Tournes or of Bernard Salomon.

For Bernard Salomon, for example, he indiscriminately switches the name around, using both forms -- Bernard Salomon and Salomon Bernard -- without noting that the literature preserves two forms. He often does not give the first edition of works. For example, in his chronological treatment -- Salomon's Ovid -- appears for the first time in 1583 under Jean II de Tournes, and not in 1557. The Apocalypse cuts are placed in 1556, and not when they first appeared, etc. On the whole, the information is unreliable, especially today.

These include landscapes and intimate scenes that have a personal accent. The Aesop and the Boccaccio are probably not the work of a single master.
